Beauty, Friends, People

She snuggled in close to me
this little squirmy one
and then pulled away
to see the world
from my arms.
So curious, so free
exploring the new colors
and sounds and smells
of our world
grasping, for the first time,
at the sparkles around
my neck and trying
vainly to taste
something new, too.
I walked her around the room
narrating and cooing in her ear
explaining the names of things
and the why of things
guiding her through this
vast new playground.
And then handed her back
to her mother
both of us content
and happy
to see my world
again reflected
in a baby’s eyes.
